Voyages: Scientific Circumnavigations 1679 to 1859
Duperrey's Voyage 1822-1825

Louis-Isadore Duperrey served as ensign aboard the Uranie during the voyage of Freycinet and had prepared the oceanographic studies for the project. Five years later he commanded his own expedition aboard La Coquille, and continued to make contributions to geodesy.

Psittacara de la Patagonie (Chili)

from Voyage Autour du Monde… sur la Corvette…La Coquille Pendant les Années 1822-1825:
Paris: Arthus Bertrand, 1825-39.

Unlike Freycinet, Duperrey reconnoitered the west coast of South America from its southern tip all the way north to Peru. The magnetical observations that he made there, near the equator, were especially important. This colorful parrot was found in Chile.
