William Dampier: 1679-1707
Scenes from Acapulco to Peru from William Funnell's A Voyage Round the World. Containing an Account of Captain Dampier's Expedition ... in the Years 1703 and 1704. London: W. Botham for J. Knapton, 1707.	This plate in Funnell's work illustrates two views of the Isthmus of Panama; a banana tree seen on the west coast of Peru; and finally a pelican and an iguana seen between Honduras and Panama. He wrote that the pelican " hath a long bill ... of a largeness almost beyond credit, into which it receiveth oysters, cockles, conches ..."
Funnel describes the fish in this plate as an Albicore, seen near Acapulco. "... we met with vast quantities of fish; so that in a half hours' time, we caught of Albicores, from sixty to ninety pound weight ... the Albicore is about four or five foot in length ... weighing from 50 to 100 and 150 pound weight. He hath eleven fins on his back and nine small yellow ones near the tail ..."
