William Dampier: 1679-1707
Botanizing in Australia, Dampier was impressed with the variety of plants that were new to him, and collected many specimens during his visit. A genus of plants, the Dampiera, was later named for him.	Plants of Australia from A Voyage to New Holland, in the Year 1699 London: Knapton, 1703.
Dampier's plant specimens survived his adventures and can still be studied at the Oxford Herbarium. Twenty-three species have recently been identified among them.
